We’ll keep things short on a Thursday card with no real feature as females that have never won twice go a mile on turf in a starter allowance heat in the typical feature race slot.
The remaining seven races on the card are for claimers, with the most cash up for grabs in the second race, a state-bred first-level $25,000 allowance optional claimer with just five runners going a mile on the main track chasing a $50,000 purse.
There is a $66,088 carryover in the Pick-6 and the races are difficult to narrow down, so there’s money to be made on the final day outside the fort night leading to the Breeders’ Cup.
We’re off to the races!
Pick 4 -
Leg 1 – Race 5 (4,6,7,8,9) – Bottom-level juvenile maiden claimers sprint six furlongs and we spread with No. 4 Doubledeesonthetee, No. 6 Primed and Ready, No. 7 Havoc, No. 8 Rodeotime and No. 9 Somewhere With You.
Leg 2 – Race 6 (1,5,7,8,9) – Five more in this staggerfest with cheap claimers going seven furlongs using No.1 Classy Lion, No. 5 Back At You, No. 7 Apply, No. 8 Striking Spirit and No. 9 Gold Medallion.
Leg 3 – Race 7 (1,4,7,9) – No. 1 Briteyednbushytail draws better than she did ten days ago and retains the services of Garrett Gomez looking to upset No. 4 Always a Chance and No. 9 Chimi Dee.
No. 7 Primal Desire won decisively off the claim for Jack Van Berg and has three steady drill since at Hollywood Park.
Leg 4 – Race 8 (1,3,8) – Class droppers No. 1 Greeley Awesome and No. 8 Disarm should prove tough against this bunch in a split of the fifth race, while No. 3 Beau Diablo rates a chance after a solid runner-up effort at this level on October 7.
Recap – (4,6,7,8,9) w (1,5,7,8,9) w (1,4,7,9) w (1,3,8) – Total cost of ticket = $150
Sunday’s Result – (-$144)
Total for current Santa Anita meet – (+$1,046.70)
Total from 12/26/10 – 9/5/12 – (-$2,966.60)
Pick 5 –
Leg 1 – Race 1 (3,4,6) – No. 4 Distort This will be favored and get to the early lead again, but he’s faded in all four local tries so we’ll add the duo of No. 3 McAllister Boys and No. 6 Trucial State.
Leg 2 – Race 2 (4) – No. 4 Bluegrass Reward moves back to Mike Mitchell for his third start off the layoff with his four wins twice as many as the next best in this short field of five and the other three runners with just a maiden score to their credit. Having faced some tough older runners over the past two years, this 4-year-old gelded son of Good Reward should appreciate this easier company and has shown the ability to track off the lead if he doesn’t get to the front.
Leg 3 – Race 3 (ALL) – Impossible to separate this bottom-level maiden claiming juveniles going a route of ground so we’ll use them all.
Leg 4 – Race 4 (1,2,3,4,7) – More juveniles, this time fillies sprinting six furlongs and we spread with No. 1 Divas and Diamonds, No. 2 Ella Bea Awesome, No. 3 Cat’sdoubledaygirl, No. 4 Hyena and No. 7 Wellington Beauty.
Leg 5 – Race 5 (4,6,7) – Trim down to the trio of No. 4 Doubledeesonthetee, No. 6 Primed and Ready and No. 7 Havoc.
Recap – (3,4,6) w (4) w (ALL) w (1,2,3,4,7) w (4,6,7) – Total cost of ticket = $180
Sunday’s Result – (-$288)
Total for current Santa Anita meet – (+$145.75)
Total from 7/20/11 – 9/5/12 – (+$17,380.65)
