Pink Lollipops could be winging on the lead in tonight's $70,000 Reminiscing on the stretch out from five furlongs.
Bob Baffert’s two biggest owners square off with 4-year-old fillies looking for their first stakes win in the 1st running of the $70,000 Reminiscing over 7 ½-furlongs over the main track.
A festive crowd is expected on a Friday night in the ‘hood with the popular band Rebelution in concert after the races.
A $230,000 yearling purchase by Kaleem Shah, American Lady is the 8-to-5 favorite off four exacta finishes in five career starts. In her only other stakes spin, the daughter of Stormy Atlantic was beaten by nearly 50 lengths in last summer’s Test Stakes (Grade I) at Saratoga.
Arnold Zetcher counters with his $110,000 yearling purchase, Pink Lollipops, who is the 5-to-2 third choice after debuting on Cushion Track with a third-place finish in the Time To Leave on May 6. The Silver Deputy filly had previously won twice from five starts over the main track at Santa Anita.
In two of Pink Lollipops four defeats at Santa Anita the winner was Spectacular Sky, who is the 9-to-5 second choice for Marty Jones after chasing a pair of classy fillies in a second-level allowance on May 4. Rafael Bejarano had been aboard the 4-year-old daughter of Sky Mesa in nine of her 11 starts, but he lands on American Lady for the first time tonight so Joel Rosario makes his maiden voyage aboard Spectacular Sky.
Top Debutante is 5-to-1 stepping back into the big leagues after her last two wins came against Arizona-breds at Turf Paradise and Suzette’s Friend is entirely over-matched at 15-to-1 despite leading the field with four wins.
We’re off to the races!
Pick 4 -
Leg 1 – Race 5 (1,3,4,7,9) – Likley the best shot at getting a hint of a price so we spread in a non-winners of two on turf using No. 1 K Js Maddog, No. 3 Quail Hill, No. 4 Victoriasugrdaddy, No. 7 Warrens Wild Thing and No. 9 East Sky.
Leg 2 – Race 6 (1,4,7,8) – Surprised no Los Al special tries this five-furlong sprint where we side with No. 1 Lana’s Smile, No. 4 Classical Slew, No. 7 Dave’s Pacemaker and No. 8 Kuro.
Leg 3 – Race 7 (2,3,4) – No. 4 Shaun Washington appears to have a pace advantage and will take some running down, but No. 2 Vibrato Jazz or No. 3 Old Time Hockey might be up to the challenge.
Leg 4 – Race 8 (2,3,5,8) – No. 8 Above Par towers over this bunch of his effort at Saratoga last summer, but he’s been training slow off the long layoff so we’ll try to beat him with No. 2 Devgru, No. 3 Change Order and No. 5 Iron Joe T.
Recap – (1,3,4,7,9) w (1,4,7,8) w (2,3,4) w (2,3,5,8) – Total cost of ticket = $120
Yesterday’s Result – (-$135)
Total for current Hollywood Park spring/summer meet – (-$1,534.40)
Total from 12/26/10 – 4/22/12 – (+$588.70)
Pick 5 –
Leg 1 – Race 1 (1,3,5) – We’ll go with the three runners that own a win over the track with No. 1 You Can Dream, No. 3 River Kiss and No. 5 Warren’s Internet.
Leg 2 – Race 2 (1,2) – Short field on order for this sequence beginning with just five runners and No. 1 Miss Reditore is the top pick off a solid runner-up effort over this layout just over a month ago.
No. 2 Melissa Rose drops from optional heat for potent connections, but has just one turf try from two years ago that resulted in a third-place finish.
Leg 3 – Race 3 (1,3,7,8) – A real bad race where No. 7 Mahogany Ridge won’t have to be much to make an impact in his debut for Doug O’Neill.
We’ll add the trio of No. 1 Chapito, No. 3 Stormin’ Bubsy and No. 8 E’s Gold.
Leg 4 – Race 4 (2,4,5) – Chalk city with No. 2 Pink Lollipops, No. 4 American Lady and No. 5 Spectacular Sky.
Leg 5 – Race 5 (1,3,4,7,9) – Same five as the late Pick-4.
Recap – (1,3,5) w (1,2) w (1,3,7,8) w (2,4,5) w (1,3,4,7,9) – Total cost of ticket = $180
Yesterday’s Result – (-$120)
