A pair of allowance heats for juvenile Cal-bred fillies sprinting 6 ½-furlongs on the main track highlight the second day of the meet, with a runner looking to break her maiden likely faster than the runners that have already crossed the wire first in their short careers and go in a first-level allowance.
After missing by half a length in her debut at Del Mar this summer, it was worth a shot for Doinghardtimeagain to go after the big money in the $250,000 Cal Cup Juvenile at Santa Anita on October 13. The daughter of Ministers Wild Cat battled hard all the way to the wire against win machine Tilde and should be sitting on a win as the 9-to-5 favorite cutting back to a sprint against maidens.
Four of the nine runners that go in the featured allowance race with a purse $3,000 more than the maiden heat at $48,000 finished well behind Doinghardtimeagain in the Cal Cup.
Despite four off the board finishes in stakes races since breaking her maiden over this strip in June, Akis Forarose is the tepid 3-to-1 favorite in this wide-open event with Rafael Bejarano taking over for the first time. The Rio Verde filly has never been sent off at less than 13-to-1 through five career starts and should be rolling late.
Tribal Gal posted a field-high 76 Beyer when wiring a group of maidens at Del Mar this summer and is the 7-to-2 second choice returning off a two-month layoff after tiring badly in the Generous Portion Stakes. The Tribal Rule filly could get herself caught up knocking heads on the lead with speedy runners breaking to both her inside and outside.
Co-third choices at 9-to-2 are Sacred Delight, the eighth-place finisher in the Cal Cup after a brutal trip, and Home Journey, who cleared and held on to beat an 11-horse maiden field in her debut at Santa Anita on October 13 after breaking from the parking lot.

Leg 2 – Race 2 (2,4,5) – It’s the male’s turn in this juvenile maiden sprint and the pair of No. 2 War Academy and No. 4 Denzel from Bob Baffert’s barn must be included, along with likely favorite No. 5 Russdiculous off a solid effort in his unveiling.
