Racing at Hollywood Park with Marc Doche: Friday night fun In Lingerie

by Marc on May 18, 2012

In Lingerie was the star of the day with her clear score in the Black Eyed Susan at Pimlico.

Another pair of $54,000 first-level allowance races with just six runners each are featured on a Friday night ahead of G. Love and Special Sauce in concert. Too bad Jack Johnson won’t be joining them.

A trio of claiming fillies are short prices on the morning line making the jump to an open first-level allowance turf sprint that goes as race two, meaning the value lies with the outside duo of Hout Bay and Belloma at 5-to-1.

Hout Bay has faced much tougher throughout her career and showed she could hand a turf sprint two starts back and Belloma has won both times she’s run fresh.

The seventh race sees males at 1 1/16-miles on the main track for an optional $25,000 tag and Woodman’s Luck is the 5-to-2 favorite making his third start off the layoff. In his last start at this point in the form cycle, he missed by a head over this main track in last year’s Snow Chief Stakes.

One of two that have won twice in the field, Go to the Pulpit could sit the perfect tracking trip off a confidence building 3 ¼-length score. Garrett Gomez is back aboard and they are drawn just outside Unstopper Topper, who stretches out off a much worse than looked maiden score against Cal-bred allowance runners.

Real Conundrum and Corner Office both exit this year’s Snow Chief and are the second and third choices each looking to get back to the winner’s circle after three defeats since breaking their maiden.

Ahead of tomorrow’s Preakness Stakes, In Lingerie captured the Black Eyed Susan (Grade II) at Pimlico for the local partnership Eclipse Thoroughbreds. The 3-year-old daughter of Empire Maker trained by Todd Pletcher has now won 3-of-4 career starts and earned over $260,000.

We’re off to the races!

Pick 4 -

Leg 1 – Race 5 (1,2,5,6,9,12) – We’ll look for No. 2 Sweet Elation to give a nice effort at long odds on the barn switch and also include No. 1 Mr. Newton, No. 5 Master Rudy, No. 6 On Holy Ground and No. 12 Denny the Great.

Leg 2 – Race 6 (2,4,6) – We’d much prefer to see a different rider aboard No. 2 Lead Blocker, but we’ll use him regardless along with No. 4 Baron Von Red and No. 6 Grumpy Small Mouth.

Leg 3 – Race 7 (1,2,3,6) – Use the four not knocked above with No. 1 Real Conundrum, No. 2 Woodman’s Luck, No. 3 Corner Office and No. 6 Go to the Pulpit.

Leg 4 – Race 8 (2,7,8) – No. 2 Kintla Jorney must be respected shipping south off a pair of clear wins for potent connections, No. 7 Winter Blossom sees her tag cut in half as she shortens up and No. 8 Jacobita returns protected off the long layoff.

Recap – (1,2,5,6,9,12) w (2,4,6) w (1,2,3,6) w (2,7,8) – Total cost of ticket = $108

Total for currentHollywoodParkspring/summer meet – (-$1,024.45)

Total from 12/26/10-4/22/12 – (+$588.70)

Pick 5 –

Leg 1 – Race 1 (2,6) – No. 6 Night Wind should score at a short price, but we’ll try to beat him with No. 2 Bev N Bud. Both drop from allowance company.

Leg 2 – Race 2 (2,5,6) – Along with Best Bet No. 5HoutBay and No. 6 Belloma preferred above, use No. 2 Love My Way trying to lead them all the way.

Leg 3 – Race 3 (2,5,7) – No. 2 Soi Phet has been decent in both route efforts, No. 5 Everlasting Man goes for a trainer with some decent stats in this situation and No. 7 Rocket Train missed by just a length at this level two weeks ago.

Leg 4 – Race 4 (1,2,3) – No. 1 Pure Storm chased a sharp runner in her last, No. 2 Diamond Duchess is in for a tag for the first time and No. 3 Arrivederci Caro goes first time for Mitchell on the class drop.

Leg 5 – Race 5 (1,2,5,6,9,12) – Same six as the late Pick-4.

Recap – (2,6) w (2,5,6) w (2,5,7) w (1,2,3) w (1,2,5,6,9,12) – Total cost of ticket = $162

Yesterday’s Result – (-$135)
